All the major sightseeing spots are reachable within 5-15 minutes by walking or using public transportations. The house is very large for Machiya townhouse and has a detached tea ceremony room and beautiful garden. Also, the house has a full kitchen so that you don’t need to eat out everyday, and maybe try to cook Japanese food! There are two bedrooms, flooring room with beds and Japanese style tatami room with futons.” [Kyoto Vacation Rental.]

Japan is full of interesting places to visit and has a rich history. Kyoto is one of Japan’s major cites, and it has previously been the country’s capital. The Kyoto Imperial Palace is a must see when visiting the city. There are other historical buildings of interest in or near the city, like Nijo-jo Castle. There are sure to be many beautiful shrines and temples (usually) dedicated to the ancient Shinto religion or some form of Buddhism that you can visit. When many people think of Japan, samurai, ninjas, or some form of martial arts usually comes to mind. If you are interested in any of those warfare topics, or any other part of Japanese history, then visit one of the city’s museums to learn Japan’s unique history. This vacation rental is not far from the Kyoto International Manga Museum for those of you interested in art and Japanese style ‘comics.’ Because of Japan’s volcanic presence there are many onsen (hot springs) throughout Japan that you can schedule a visit with. Do your own research to find out what specifically will interest you during a stay in Japan. Mibu Machiya will be the entryway into your exploration of Kyoto!

Mansion Kiara

Mansion Kiara, Santorini, Greece

Mansion Kiara, Santorini, Greece (Night view)

This villa rental is located on the Grecian island Santorini with picturesque views of surrounding vineyards and other beautiful sites. The island has hundreds of villages perched on the edges of cliffs that each offer their own unique views. You can visit the Santorini Volcano and view some amazing frozen lava formations and maybe even see some steam rise from the rocks around the volcano. There are also several black sand beaches throughout the island’s coast. Cliff jumping is a common activity on the island for those who like adrenaline highs!

An interesting fact about the island is that it used to have a circular shape, but the island’s volcano had an eruption so strong that it caused the center of the island to sink. Some believe that this eruption was responsible for the extinction of  the Minoan Civilization of Crete Island, Greece. You know the story with the Minotaur and the labyrinth? Yeah, that civilization. The two islands are next to each other in the Aegean Sea, but they are separated by many miles. Of course this is just one (unproven) theory, and we may never know for sure.

Greece is full of fascinating myths. If you visit be sure to check them out! Each island and area in Greece is sure to have different tales to tell. Now on to details about this particular villa rental on Santorini island:

“The Mansion Kiara is situated on a quiet path in the quaint village of Megalochori.  At the turn of the century the Mansion was serving as a winery and cellar. The original structure has been sensitively renovated, and has been restored to its original splendour, retaining the original layout and traditional features. A barn-door leads you into the open-plan living space, affording a wonderful entertainment area. The smooth curves, alcoves and lighting of the minimalistic interior add to the unique atmosphere of staying there. An archway leads you into a corridor where the three bedrooms are. The comfortable master bedroom has a wonderful view to the pool and the colorful garden of the Mansion. The other two bedrooms are on the other side of the corridor. A large comfortable vanity bathroom with tub is also along this corridor to serve the bedrooms. The smooth-edged carved interior provides a cool and relaxing haven during the hot summer days.

In the large courtyard of the Mansion the guests can relax on the sun beds, swim in the pool or enjoy epicurean meals on the outdoors dining area, shaded by a wooden pergola. From the courtyard, stairs lead up to the terrace where you can enjoy the view of the vineyards and the sea on the distance. This Villa can accommodate up to 6 guests. Mansion Kiara provides a perfect base for those wanting to experience the many rhythms of the island.” [Greece Villa Rentals: Villa VMS KIA | 3BR Rental.]

Santa Barbara Victorian

Victorian Cottage, Santa Barbara CA

Victorian Cottage, Santa Barbara CA

This townhouse is in a charming Queen Anne Victorian style duplex (two separate vacation rentals) situated behind the owners 140 year old home, one of Santa Barbara‘s oldest Victorians, which was built in the mid 1800’s. The owners restored the house in 1998, and then the townhouse was completed in 2001 in the same style as the main house. It even has a tower, complete with “witches cap.” It is tastefully furnished with an eclectic mix of family heirlooms and new craftsman style furniture.  The two bedrooms are upstairs above the living area and have cathedral ceilings. The owners have also converted the second floor of the cottage into a studio. It will sleep 2 in a queen bed, a youngster on a cot, and an infant in a crib. It’s perfect for a couple or a young family! So this property has three options for potential renters to choose from.

These charming vacation rentals are within walking distance to downtown and the beach. State Street, Arlington Theatre, restaurants, shops are only two blocks away. You could enjoy some ‘water’ related activities at nearby Stearns Wharf, East and West Beach, the Maritime Museum or one of the many ocean side restaurants that are only about a mile and a half away. Or, if you prefer to venture a bit further, check out these easy driving distances: 30 scenic miles along Rte 154 through the hills of the Los Padres National Forest, past Lake Cachuma to the Danish village of Solvang; and on a few more miles to Buellton for Andersen’s famous pea soup and other good food. 30 scenic miles south on Rte 101 along the ocean to Ventura/Oxnard. 120 scenic miles north on Rte 101 through wine country to Hearst Castle. It’s also not too far to travel to the perhaps more famous San Fernando Valley/LA area.

Fattoria Spinola

Fattoria Spinola painting

Fattoria Spinola painting

Built as a convent during the late Middle-Ages, the Fattoria Spinola was transformed in 1850 by a Cardinal in the Spinola family into an impressive Umbrian farm estate which today comprises 130 hectares of which 100 are cultivated with vineyards, wheat and other agricultural products. Sprawling in the panoramic Tiber River valley at the center of a D.O.C. wine producing region, the Fattoria Spinola will spoil you with their very own Grechetto, a typical white wine, and a delicious red D.O.C. Sangiovese. And during the summer a vast organic vegetable garden is grown and maintained for the host family and guests. All nature of vegetables and aromatic herbs, cultivated without chemical fertilizers or insecticides but with abundant sun, water and love, are placed at your disposal during your stay.

Upon arrival, guests will a “welcome basket” on the kitchen table with all of the necessary provision for an afternoon snack: fresh eggs, homemade salami, biscuits, marmalade, homemade Torgiano honey, tea, coffee, milk and sugar and two bottles of the house wine.

There is still a private consecrated chapel with (damaged) frescoes dating back approximately at the beginning of the fourteenth century for those who want to explore the historical aspect of this property.

This villa is divided into 2 independent apartments, and a detached small independent house nearby for 2 to 4 people. There is the possibility to rent whole property or single units in combination following the number of guests (up to 16).

Fattori Spinola

Fattori Spinola, Umbria, Italy

The country house has been carefully restored and divided vertically into two large, elegant apartments. Each two-story apartment includes three double bedrooms; two bathrooms; a living room; a sitting room with woodstove and double sofa-bed; a large, fully equipped kitchen; and a private gazebo in the garden to enjoy outdoor lunches and dinners. Sunny and peaceful, both apartments have been furnished with care and good taste, using stylish antiques.

Recently restored, il Nido (Italian for “the nest”), is a cottage close to the main farmhouse furnished with traditional antiques. Ideal for hosting two guests, the matrimonial bedroom has an old style canopy bed and is comfortable and quaint. The sunny living room with double sofa-bed contains a dinner nook, and the kitchen is equipped with refrigerator, electric oven and a small dish washer. The large bathroom is handicap accessible, and the cottage’s front is equipped with barbecue, lights, a table and chairs for outdoor meals.

The edenic grounds of the Fattoria Spinola offer ample venues for bike rides and pleasant strolls around the estate. Quiet and serene, you’ll find relaxation is inevitable. During a picnic in the forest of ancient oaks and other typical trees and plants, it is not unusual to see pheasants, hares, quails, foxes, porcupines, owls and other native fauna due to a strictly enforced ban on hunting throughout the estate grounds.

In addition to a superior culinary tradition and an incredible variety of fine wines, Umbria is a region rich in artistic places and masterpieces, in cultural events and entertainment, folk fairs, antique exhibitions, and much more (Umbriajazz, Festival of Spoleto, etc.) At 1 Km from the Agriturismo there is the Torgiano’s Tennis courts, and at about 2 Km. there is the possibility to organise nice horse rides on the fields nearby.
